Oct. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- Philadelphia, PA - In an era when Christian congregations are becoming more concerned with what happens inside the four walls of their own churches, Mother Bethel AME is focused on the larger society and remains on the frontlines of the fight for fairness and equality.  This is why on Sunday, November 13, 2011, starting at 11am, Mother Bethel AME Church, located at 419 South 6th Street in Philadelphia, presents Social Justice Sunday. Hosted by the congregation's Missionaries, the day will feature prominent guests including, Rev. Reginald T. Jackson of Orange, NJ, most famous as the leader in the effort to bring an end to racial profiling by the New Jersey State Troopers; Dr. Michael Eric Dyson (Georgetown University) and Dr. Obery Hendricks (New York Theological Seminary), who will discuss a new book by Hendricks on the role of social justice in the Christian faith tradition. Special music will be provided by the Concert Choir of Cheyney University, the state of Pennsylvania’s most historic African American college. The message will center on personal freedoms. “You can't preach to people about Heaven on Sunday and show no concern about them living in hell the rest of the week,” says Rev. Mark Kelly Tyler, Ph.D., Mother Bethel’s senior pastor.  “People need to know that the Church cares about them being free from police brutality, living in safe neighborhoods, having access to quality education and housing.”
