The oldest conservation society in the country, celebrating its 50th year, Collier County Audubon Society (CCAS) with 2,000 members is an independent chapter affiliated with the National Audubon Society and Audubon of Florida.  CCAS is one of the most effective environmental policy and lobbying organizations in SW Florida.  Projects include providing support for expansion of wetland conservation programs and wildlife refuge creation in the Northern Everglades; contributing to planning for water storage and restoration projects in the Greater Everglades including “water farming” projects on privately owned ranch lands; and advancing the Florida Panther Protection Program through local policies and offering an objective science review.  The Society has provided policy makers scientific based information on climate change, sea level rise, and ecosystem implications.  CCAS co-sponsors environmental education for thousands of third and fourth graders in public schools and conducts an extracurricular Audubon Young Birders program.  In addition, the Society sponsors public lectures on such topics as Ospreys and Hurricanes and conducts field trips to birding “hot spots” in the surrounding counties.
