Baby Boomers & Minnesota’s Unemployment Problem

While addressing our nation’s unemployment problem continues to be top on many political agendas these days, one Maple Grove business owner is doing something about it. Jim Bear of J Alan Financial found many of his clients, who had been employed for years, were now finding themselves in the job market again. Baby Boomers have a unique challenge in today’s job market: so much has changed since they last looked for a job. Bear is giving back to his clients and his community by sponsoring his 16th free monthly workshop called You Can Get Hired at the Maple Grove Community Center this Tuesday, November 1st, 2011 from 9am to 11:30am.

Baby Boomers need help with updating their resumes, learning how social media can play an active role in their search, interviewing techniques, staying motivated and networking. At this workshop two industry experts will guide the audience on recognizing and preventing job-search frustration and developing a powerful resume.

The first presenter, personal coach Paulie Skaja-Bell of Dragon Fly Journey, will discuss strategies to minimize negative self-talk, retrain your thoughts and identify opportunities in the current situation. The second presenter is Steve Leavons, a recruiter for Robert Half International, who will be giving the inside scoop of what employers are looking for, and the do’s and don’t’s of resumes and more.

As an added bonus after the workshop, Donae Cotton Photography is offering free head shots to compliment social networking opportunities. Social networking is a key component in the job search and the profile picture is an important part of it! This bonus photo is free to all job seekers and people who have attended the workshop.
