US NAVY UTILIZES A SPECIALIZED DIVERSITY TRAINING PROGRAM TO HELP TRANSITIONING VETERANS
US Naval Sea Command Selects DESTIN Enterprises, LLC to Provide Sensitivity Training To Assist and Support Returning Wounded Warriors.
COLUMBIA, MARYLAND October 24, 2011. DESTIN Enterprises, LLC (DESTIN) as a sub-contractor for Arlington, Virginia based RGS, has been selected by the US Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) to provide specialized “Preparing Employers to Reintegrate Combat Exposed Veterans with Disabilities” (P.E.R.C.E.V.D.) diversity, sensitivity and awareness training for NAVSEA Wounded Warriors. The training program will be extended to all NAVSEA supervisors and mentors within the Command to raise awareness regarding the prevalent issues of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI), military sexual trauma (MST) and other combat- related conditions. The ‘cutting-edge’ program also emphasizes the business case for proactive and innovative solutions that help employers prevent alcohol and substance abuse, absenteeism, attrition and suicide.
The P.E.R.C.E.V.D. diversity program was created by DESTIN president and CEO Edward Crenshaw. Crenshaw is a military veteran, diversity subject matter expert, blogger, speaker and author of the book “The P.E.R.C.E.V.D. Principles.” As a diversity thought leader towards the issues of veterans and disability awareness, Crenshaw states, “The book as well as the P.E.R.C.E.V.D. training, leverages best practice HR and diversity methodologies to effectively help organizations ‘bridge the cultural gap’ and help create sensitive and conducive workplace environments that optimize the contributions of veteran and disability talent.” The DESTIN P.E.R.C.E.V.D. training program also helps to strategically alleviate harmful stigma.
Crenshaw states, “No two organizations are identical; therefore, a specialized assessment is necessary to better understand potential PTSD environmental triggers, areas of support and cultural competency challenges.” DESTIN offers customized solutions that can be measured towards return on investment. Says Crenshaw, “Even the most altruistic employers can exacerbate conditions by inadvertently exposing employees to PTSD triggers, insensitivity, inflexibility, stigma and inadequate support. It is a great disservice to have veterans suffer in silence and experience high turnover rates because of ambiguity towards the issues.” http://www.thepercevdprinciples.com
