A good naturopath will use microscopy to qualitatively study your bloods and to identify any organisms or parasites that may be in your system. The use of microscopy is a fairly non-invasive method of diagnosis and is a common occurrence in many practices.

The Procedure

The naturopath will simply do a small prick test on the thumb or forefinger and will place the droplet on a smear slide that is then wedged between two panels of glass. The blood then undergoes the optical microscopy illumination process in the form of bright field processing. This simply means the sample illumination is transmitted from below and is passed through the slide and observed from above.

The contrast in the sample is caused by light being absorbed by the denser areas of the sample.

Bright Field Microscopy in naturopathy is good for high contrast and as a rule of thumb; the light should be approximately twice the field of view at the camera lens. Light is condensed and controlled and focused in on the slide giving the light contrast that allows for the identification and pinpointing of irregularities and health issues in the fixed specimens or live cells direct from a blood sample.
