"I am really happy with the way we ran at Charlotte," said Koch. "It was great to get Rookie of the Race again; it's been awhile and the season is winding down. More importantly it was really special for me to driver the pink Daystar #81 Dodge to such a strong finish for my mom and to race awareness about breast cancer. We need a couple more runs like this in these last few races.” Breast cancer is a disease that affects the lives of millions of women each year, robbing them of their strength, their joy and often times their hope to live. In 2010 alone, an estimated 261,100 women found out they had breast cancer. While there are some treatments available to those that battle the disease, there still is no actual cure which places thousands of women each year as victims of breast cancer's deadliest grasp. For Koch, the effects of breast cancer are something he and his family know firsthand, as Angie has battled the terrible disease not only once, but twice in her life. In Charlotte, Angie was in the Daystar Television Network pit area throughout the day to watch her son support her fight and a great cause. Koch qualified 27th in last Friday's race. Using the combination of his great patience and controlled aggression behind the wheel, along with excellent pit stops and guidance from his spotter Chris Monez, Koch was a man on a mission from the waving of the green flag. When the checkered flag waved he rolled across the line in the 18th position to earn the Rookie of the Race Award. His rookie rival, Timmy Hill, finished 21st in the event. With the finish, Koch is now just one point behind Hill in the closely contested Rookie of the Year standings. The Sunoco Rookie of the Year candidates earn points based on their best 17 finishes of the season. Points are earned through entry points, competition points based on finish, top 10 bonus points, bonus points based on three segments of the season and a panel of voters at the completion of the season. Only three events remain on the 2011 Nascar Nationwide season schedule. After a two week break, Koch and his counterparts will return to competition on November 5 at Texas Motor Speedway for the O'Reilly Auto Parts Challenge. The series will then roll into Phoenix International Raceway on November 12 for the Wypall 200, and will conclude in Koch's home state on November 19 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway in Florida for the Ford 300. "These last three races are crucial for us to win Rookie of the Year," said Koch. "We need to have strong finishes in all three and keep ahead of Timmy. In nearly every race this year we have finished just a few positions of one another. It's going to be close right down to the end."
