Oct. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- A novel of epic proportions, Alvin Yusin’s Apple Hill follows the lives of three generations of one family in the years leading up to and including the Civil War.

This gripping and thought-provoking saga is a fictional account that reads with stunning accuracy.

Yusin pulls the reader into the atrocities of war by narrating through the eyes of two freed slaves and three generations of a family whose fortune was acquired through illegal and horrific means.

An author and medical doctor, Alvin Yusin lends an uncanny truth to the traumas and diseases that soldiers and civilians experienced during one of our nation’s most bloody wars. The only war where Americans fought each other in the name of freedom—a freedom more important than the color of one’s skin or the origin of one’s family—is the main theme of this brilliantly told tale.

Meet the Blackstone family, with its patriarch, Andrew, who marries into the aristocratic Wellworth family. Andrew makes a fortune from slave smuggling and his actions set in motion catastrophic consequences that affect his life and the lives of his children and grandchildren.

Yusin paints an accurate and sometimes troubling portrait of the families that were affected by this unprecedented time of war. Slave smuggling, infamous battles, the plight of the Negro Union soldiers and the repercussions felt by those involved are chronicled to a dramatic conclusion.
