Oct. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- October 18, 2011 – Westlake Village, CA – Timothy Beccue, an Oaks Christian Online School (OCOS) sophomore and Life Scout, spoke to his Boy Scout troop on Monday night, October 17th, about his recent year-long trip around the world.  Timothy and his family visited 33 countries while performing service work and homeschooling along the way.  Timothy’s parents had been inspired during college to plan a worldwide trip and determined that their own children would benefit most around their 8th grade year.  They started actively planning about 9 months before the trip, and the whole family participated in brainstorming the itinerary.

The family served with mission organizations and visited friends but also took time for schoolwork and rest.  Timothy’s sister, Alyssa, mentioned one of her favorite experiences as helping at the Miracle House Children’s Home in Kenya, where her Sunday School class at Living Oaks Community Church sponsors a child.  “She’s enough of a world-traveler to return there on her own next June, but I get to go, too,” Dad said.  Tim mentions experiences such as paragliding in Papua New Guinea and riding in Tuk-tuk’s in Cambodia where they were also able to develop and lead fun activities at a remote orphanage that rarely sees Western visitors.  One of the scarier moments came in Cairo, Egypt when Timothy was taking pictures during the government uprisings in Tahrir Square and was confronted by an angry woman bystander yelling in Arabic.  “I’ve learned that everything is not the same as in the United States.  There are kids running around in Africa that are happy, while we might think we have problems here.”  Timothy will continue to travel this school year as he heads to Salzburg this coming April as a cellist and one of only 12 students with the Los Angeles Junior Chamber Music group.  Tim has attended traditional school, been homeschooled, and now attends Oaks Christian Online School (OCOS).

The main campus of Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village opened in the fall of 2000 and Oaks Christian Online School (OCOS) opened for full-time, online students in the fall of 2011. The online school provides a rigorous and challenging college preparatory education for high school students all across the country in a Christian environment.   Oaks Christian Online School continues to enroll part-time and full-time students throughout the school year and regularly hosts information sessions on its main campus – 31749 La Tienda Drive, Westlake Village, CA  91362, as well as virtual information sessions for prospective student families.
