UK Energy Saving Delighted at Wave of Positive News on Fairtrade

Oct. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- October 2011 has seen positive news stories from the UK’s Fairtrade Foundation and UK Energy Saving, http://www.uk-energy-saving.com, are thrilled to hear of the continuing success of the Fairtrade Mark and the progressive moves to further engage with producers.  

Earlier this month the results of a global survey commissioned by Fairtrade International indicated that support for Fairtrade is increasing globally and that the UK market is still strong and growing.  Hayley Jones, Web Marketing Director at UK Energy Saving, comments on the findings.  “Here at UK Energy Saving we are strong supporters of the Fairtrade model and it is a testament to the robust ideals of the scheme that, in spite of economic difficulties worldwide, consumers are still choosing Fairtrade products.  The UK remains the largest Fairtrade market and it is reassuring to see that people are thinking beyond their own pockets and considering the impact of their consumer choices.”

There was further positive news for the Fairtrade movement later in the month, when the General Assembly of Fairtrade International voted unanimously to increase producer representation within the Assembly to 50%, giving them a much bigger voice on issues such as membership and changes to the constitution.  “This can only be a positive move for Fairtrade International,” comments Hayley Jones, “empowering producers even further. It is clear from decisions such as these that Fairtrade is a system based on fairness and equality, sentiments which consumers are clearly buying into.  At UK Energy Saving we look forward to the continuing growth of the Fairtrade sector.”
