Oct. 18, 2011 - PRLog -- Last season Toronto’s LG Fashion Week premiered Chor-Yin Choi, one of the most artistic designers Canada has seen in years. His line CYDELIC by Choryin burst onto the scene last year with his S/S 2011 collection- an ode to his musical influence combination of classical and electronic. Flirty white dresses with layers and elements of S&M tie ups brought together features of dreams, where Choi seems to draw inspiration for most of his designs.

Last Thursday the designer launched his new line of limited edition handbags to hundreds of guests at Seven Continents annual artist showcase event BAMBOOZLE, the perfect setting to kickoff fashion week. Selected fashion industry guests were allowed a sneak peak at the bags which will grace the runway this week. The line consists of over 20 bags, each made with a multitude of exotic fabrics and materials sourced from around the globe. Each bag taking over 20 hours to create, some longer than others and every bag given its own personality. The bags are all based on the same standard design shape which Choi explains is not only extremely durable and practical, but necessary in creating a line that withstands the quickly changing seasons in the fashion industry therefore ultimately, creating a timeless classic bag.

This Friday October 21st, the CYDELIC line will again parade the runway at LGFW and will be presented by Seven Continents. The new line titled ALIENS is a mixing of styles, fabrics and elements, and along with Choi’s signature artistic looks, CYDLEIC’s ready to wear collection will also make its debut. Choi is now known for his larger than life wearable art pieces; garments that are being snatched up by celebs like Madonna for music videos, photo-shoots and performances. On the everyday side, the retail driven collection consists of over 12 separates that come in a variety of patterns and colours that are guaranteed to be unique. The garments are a nod to the mod era where tight was in and geometric structure was anything but square.

The handbags which will adorn the models arms on the runway will provide a sharp contrast to the often stark artistic designs Choi is accustomed to producing. “The bags are inspired by animal hybrids, aliens and space.” Says Choi. “It’s very futuristic; I used a lot of different fabrics that most designers wouldn’t consider touching such as, plastic, leather, and reptile skin. I also have a fascination with frog skin and I wanted to incorporate that into the collection as well.”

Last season Choi sent out MONSTERS on the runway to a packed house with pieces that appeared to be carved out of Stonehenge, and meticulously die cut details mimicking a Rorschach inkblot card. Using meticulous hand craft methods resulting in sculpture like detailing, Cydelic by Choryin was created to inspire people into thinking outside of the box.

CYDELIC will show on the LGFW runway this Friday October 21st at 6pm at David Pecaut Square in Toronto.
