Oct. 17, 2011 - PRLog -- The Moorpark College Foundation announces the launch and initial success of a new online outreach program for its inaugural Holiday Lights at Moorpark College festival and fund-raiser in December.  The nonprofit Foundation presents a distinctive crowdsourcing element to reach out and engage with the community to support its festival of lights, vendors, children’s activities and more.

Since the launch Sept. 16 of a platform designed by Westlake Village-based Invested.in, the Holiday Lights site has raised more than $1,200.

“Holiday Lights at Moorpark College was fashioned as a unique event in our area, and we wanted to try something different to invite the community,” said Dr. Pam Eddinger, President of Moorpark College.  “We have a compelling concept – get as many holiday lights as possible on large building in a grand holiday celebration.  This program allows for easy community involvement, and it’s fun to watch it grow.”

The site offers visitors sponsorship options – to sponsor “points of light” – for as little as $5.  For each sponsorship, donors can leave messages for loved ones, friends or family members for inclusion in the event program.  They also can engage other event supporters in the site’s comments section, and share the project through social media sites.  Supporters can ‘like,’ ‘follow’ or contribute to the project to make an impact and raise awareness.

Holiday Lights at Moorpark College, sponsored by the Moorpark College Foundation and the college’s Associated Students, is Saturday, Dec. 3.  The centerpiece is illumination of the campus Library Building; supported by a festival with vendors, children’s activities, entertainment and special surprises.  Nearby on campus will be the EATM Arctic Lights event, where America’s Teaching Zoo also will light up and feature real snow, activities for children and the family, and educational exhibits.

Vendor and sponsorship opportunities are available.  For information call (805) 581-2743.

The Moorpark College Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation designated to receive gifts for the college from individuals, corporations, and foundations.  Established in 1980, this volunteer board of community leaders broadens the educational opportunities of Moorpark College students through scholarships, program grants, and capital projects.  Information: (805) 378-1431 or http://www.moorparkcollege.edu/found.
