Texas POA Primer by Sharon Reuler Named "Best Paper" at Annual Real Estate Law Course
Dallas attorney Sharon Reuler and Houston attorney Roy Hailey share the Jerry Charles Saegert Award for "Best CLE Paper" for "The Texas POA Primer ~ Tips for Working with Condominium and Homeowner Associations".
The Texas POA Primer is designed for a Texas attorney who is relatively inexperienced in representing mandatory membership property owners associations, or representing homeowners with grievances against their associations. Unlike many articles written by lawyers, the Primer is consumer-friendly - full of practical advice, checklists, frequently-asked-
The Best CLE Paper award is given annually by the Course planning committee to the article they consider to be the best from the previous year's course. The committee had 45 articles from which to choose. This is Sharon's first time to receive the prestigious award, Roy's second time.
The "Best Paper" award honors the memory of Austin attorney Jerry Charles Saegert, who was a dynamic proponent of continuing legal education for Texas real estate lawyers, until his untimely death in 2001 at the age of 54. In addition to being a frequent and popular speaker, Jerry regularly served on planning committees for real estate CLE courses, and chaired the State Bar's Advanced Real Estate Law Course and Advanced Real Estate Drafting Course. He also chaired the State Bar's Continuing Legal Education Committee, which serves all practice areas. He was a posthumous recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the State Bar Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law Section.
In accepting the award, Sharon credited Jerry Saegert for getting her involved with continuing legal education when she was only seven years out of law school. "I am the beneficiary of Jerry's commitment to diversity. He created opportunities for women and minorities to be more visible within the real estate bar. He invited me to speak at seminars and to serve on planning committees. Receiving a CLE award named for my mentor is very meaningful for me."
The Best Paper Award is one of two Sharon received at the 2011 luncheon. If not the first, it is one of the few times that the two awards - Best Paper and Best Speaker - have been given to the same person.
Sharon Reuler represents real estate developers state-wide in the creation, marketing, and operation of common interest communities, such as planned developments, town homes, and condominiums.
