Oct. 17, 2011 - PRLog -- New Albany, OH – The Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts (100 W. Dublin-Granville Rd., New Albany) 2011-2012 season continues tomorrow, Tuesday, October 18 with the acclaimed Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble. Presented in collaboration with the King Arts Complex, this interactive theatrical experience reveals and demystifies the beauty and experiences found in the world of dance. This new generation of the Dance Theatre of Harlem is replete with exciting dancers bursting with energy and style. The Ensemble, made up of 15 dancers, has received rave reviews in venues across the country.

As the vibrant company warms up, a narrator explains the process of creating a dance artist. The audience gains insight and an insider’s perspective on how classical dancers are trained and how a program comes together. The performance is diverse with high energy contemporary pieces along with one-act ballets and dance suites, all costumed accordingly. Tuesday’s program will feature dance pieces choreographed by Robert Garland, Royston Maldoom and Peter Pucci, with a variety of musical selections from Scott Joplin, Gustav Mahler, Johann Sebastian Bach, James Brown and others.

The Dance Theatre of Harlem institution, born out of the turmoil of the Civil Rights era and the tragedy of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., endures as a testament to the commitment of founders Arthur Mitchell and Karen Shook's ability to transform young lives through the arts, but also to the vision that enabled them to defy convention and provide opportunity where none existed before.

Changing perceptions of audiences worldwide with the universal common denominator of excellence as their guiding light, Dance Theatre of Harlem has amassed 40 years of "firsts," clearly pointing to the "miracle on 152nd Street" where they are located today as an example of a true American classic. The Dance Theatre of Harlem is comprised of an ensemble, school, and the community and education outreach program.

The Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble Interactive Performance will take place at the Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts, located at 100 W. Dublin-Granville Rd. in New Albany, in the Irving E. Schottenstein Theatre. Tickets are $25, $30 and $35 and are still available.
