Oct. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- BURLINGTON, N.C. –  Sometimes, earning a “0” is better than an A+, especially when it means a facility has an exceptional “0 deficiency” in patient care — a designation recently earned by Edgewood Place and Heritage Place from the N.C. Department of Public Health and Human Services.

Edgewood Place, located on the campus of The Village at Brookwood (http://www.villageatbrookwood.org), provides comprehensive rehabilitation, short-term skilled nursing care, and long-term skilled nursing care in inpatient and outpatient settings for Alamance County residents. Heritage Place, the private health care area for The Village at Brookwood continuing care retirement community (CCRC), has rooms for assisted living, memory support and skilled nursing for residents living on the campus of the CCRC.

“Each year, a Department of Public Health team performs an unannounced survey of health care facilities that accept Medicare and Medicaid,” says Daniel Cuthriell, Executive Director of The Village at Brookwood. “The team evaluates everything from delivery of service to medication administration to customer satisfaction. They do staff and family interviews, check paperwork and charts, and even measure the temperature of the food at multiple locations. If a health care center falls short on any of these requirements, they receive a ‘deficiency,’ similar to a demerit in school.”

Edgewood Place and Heritage Place did not fall short on any of the Department of Health requirements, thereby receiving a “0 Deficiency Rating.” “It’s very difficult to achieve a 0 Deficiency since so many tasks and levels are surveyed,” says Cuthriell. “We are so proud of the nursing team and staff at both places for this spectacular score!”

Edgewood Place recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary. The Village at Brookwood, including Heritage Place, was built adjacent to Edgewood Place in 2003 in order to offer senior living in a premier continuing care retirement community (CCRC) with a full continuum of care.

Edgewood Place and The Village at Brookwood are sponsored by Alamance Regional Medical Center, which means hospital patients can transition from inpatient services into outpatient programs with no need to change providers.
