SaiGon' history is only 300 years old, less than a third that of the Capital, Ha Noi in 1859, the city was captured by the Frech and became the Capital Of Cochinchina. From 1956 until its dramatic demise in April 1975, SaiGon was Capital of the South VN. And yet the city still retains its connections to the past, particularly in Cho Lon, the city' China town.
Phu Quoc has the whitest sand beaches in the country, and if you want to watch the sun set (it’s the only place in Vietnam where you can do this) this is the place to come. Geologically, it's totally different to the other beaches in Vietnam, because it's in the Gulf of Thailand, and Phu Quoc closely resembles Koh Chang or Koh Samet near Bangkok. Just an hour flight from Saigon and you’ll be enjoying the sun, sea and seafood of Vietnam’s most southern beach.
Even further south is  Phan Thiet and  Mui Ne, close enough to Saigon to be a popular weekend outing destination for residents there. Its got a laid back feels, and includes 4 star hotels like the Nototel Corallia, so roughing it isn’t required here. Mui Ne Beach, an upcoming resort area known for its spectacular sand dunes. This is regarded as one of Vietnam's most beautiful beaches, but locals still needs to develop an attitude to cleanness, as rubbish piles up between resorts..The beach is also known for world-class wind/kite surfing [good wind almost guaranteed - though the sea-breeze can be over the-top for sun bathing
Nha Trang, 'the Vietnamese Riviera', is a delightful little town of tranquil, friendly locals. It has 6 miles of splendid white sandy beach with azure water, backed by green hills and palm trees. The town has little noise or pollution because locals prefer walking or biking to motorbiking. You can find good Indian restaurants there and some of the best seafood restaurants in the country. Tran Phu [public beach] is inviting but beaches north of the town and on islands in the bay are a better option.
HOI AN Town In 1999, the old town was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO as a well-preserved example of a Southeast Asian trading port of the 15th to 19th centuries, with buildings that display a unique blend of local and foreign influences.
According to UNESCO Impact Report 2008 Hoi An .tourism has bought unacceptable changes to Hoi An and today the culture and heritage that UNESCO status was meant to preserve has been destroyed by tourism. Hội An attracts a relatively large number of tourists, although since 2008 less are foreigners, also being a well-established place on the backpacker trail
Halong Bay offers plenty of small beaches, most of them on islands in the middle of the Bay (though the majority of islands are too steep and rocky to have beaches). These are best visited by kayak because large touring boats don’t have the shallow depth to approach the rocky shore.
Cat Ba is the largest island in the Bay and approximately half of its area is covered by a National Park, which is home to the highly endangered Cat Ba Langur. The island has a wide variety of natural ecosystems, both marine and terrestrial, leading to incredibly high rates of biodiversity. Types of natural habitats found on Cat Ba Archipelago include limestone karsts, tropical limestone forests, coral reefs, mangrove and sea grass beds, lagoons, beaches, caves, and willow swamp forests. Cat Ba Island is one of the only populated islands in Ha Long Bay, with roughly 13,000 inhabitants living in six different communes, and 4,000 more inhabitants living on floating fishing villages off the coast. The large majority of the population can be found in Cat Ba Town which is located at the southern tip of the Island (15 km south of the national park) and is the commercial center on the Island. Since 1997, Cat Ba Town has grown rapidly and has become a tourist hub for both the Island and greater Ha Long Bay.
