Oct. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- Local care home operator PSP Healthcare, has launched an emergency programme to help the families and supporters of elderly people stuck in hospital.

In response to the damning Care Quality Commission report which highlighted serious short falls in the care of the elderly whilst in hospital, PSP Healthcare's initiative allows for speedy admission into one of their homes.

Prospective residents can benefit from funding support via the company's £1m subsidy fund. The fund was designed to help the elderly to afford private healthcare.

Group Operations Director, Wayne Shermon told us, "The crisis facing public healthcare for the elderly is terrible. Whilst in my experience staff on the ground do their very best, they are seriously hampered by budget cuts." He went on to explain the PSP Healthcare initiative "anyone who has an elderly relative or friend in hospital should contact us. We can often arrange a clinical assessment with 24hrs and submit an application to our subsidy fund to help with the costs"

“Certainly for older people we believe that long term care is best entrusted to a nursing home environment. Within a nursing home, care is individually planned taking into account all of the residents needs, from nutrition to social welfare. This often makes nursing home care much more cost effective than keeping the same individual in hospital. To put it bluntly the government is wasting tax payers money keeping thousands of older people in the wrong environment during these times of cuts.”
