Oct. 13, 2011 - PRLog -- Professional photographer Karen I. Hirsch of Chicago, IL  has her prints featured in a group art show at the offices of Raymond James in Chicago.  She is displaying 26 works in four categories:  colorful abstracts/experimental , travel destinations, sailing and nature.  She is one of five artists selected for this exhibition.

Karen I. Hirsch is an award-winning commercial, editorial and fine art photographer.  She is a visual storyteller - usng her imagery to communicate an idea, a mood, an event or a personality.  Her photojournalistic images demonstrate her knack for anticipating and capturing "the decisive moment."   These are evident in her sailboat racing photos and her street photography.  Her imagination takes hold when she produces colorful creations through her use of digital painting and by collaging multiple images.  She has a keen eye for color and composition.

Hirsch's images have earned honors in international competitions in England, France, Switzerland and the United States. Her photos have been published internationally in books, magazines, newspapers and calendars.

Rangefinder Magazine, a national publication for professional photographers, featured Hirsch's sailboat racing photography in their June issue this year.

In 2007, the government of China invited Hirsch to be one of ten foreign photographers to photograph the city of Rizhao.  The photos were used for tourism and to attract businesses to the region.

In 2003, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs asked Hirsch to display her images of Chicago at the Richard J. Daley Civic Center.   "My Chicago"  a one-woman, 25- year photographic retrospective,  included more than 200 photos of Chicago's people, places and events.  The Illinois Arts Council awarded a grant to assist with the production of this exhibit.

During college, Hirsch was introduced to the art of photography while studying in France.  She continued learning about art and photography while on a Fulbright Travel grant in Spain.  After receiving her graduate degree from the University of Illinois, Hirsch began a career in advertising.  She spent a number of years as the in-house photographer and magazine editor for Foote, Cone & Belding Advertising in Chicago. Since then, she has run her own photography business.

Hirsch is an active member of the American Society of Media photographers and  the immediate past president of Fort Dearborn-Chicago Photo Forum, an historical not-for-profit photography organization.

Hirsch's photos are included in private and corporate collections.
