Follow on Google News | Dick Van Arsdale of the Phoenix Suns Shows Off Artwork at Sanderson LincolnDick Van Arsdale, the Original Phoenix Sun, will be at Sanderson Lincoln on Friday, October 14 showing off his artwork. Van Arsdale will be joined by Hall of Fame broadcaster Al McCoy.
By: Ryan Lewis Van Arsdale was the first-ever member of the Phoenix Suns organization after being selected in the 1968 expansion draft following three seasons in New York. He also scored the first points for the Suns, helping him earn the moniker, The Original Phoenix Sun. However, five years ago, Van Arsdale suffered a stroke that left him unable to talk, a quality his doctors feared would never return. Although he has since regained the ability to speak with only minor word mix-ups, Van Arsdale threw himself into his artwork, allowing him to become an accomplished artist post-stroke. Van Arsdale sells his pen-and-ink work, which depicts things from his childhood to his successful 12-year NBA career, but also donates many pieces to charity events. Currently, he is working on a collection of greeting cards. A collection of Van Arsdale’s original artwork has been on display for purchase at Sanderson Lincoln the week of October 10th. On Friday, October 14th from 5pm-6pm, Van Arsdale and McCoy will be at the Phoenix Lincoln dealership to meet fans.
