Oct. 13, 2011 - PRLog -- Choosing kitchen countertop materials can sometimes be a little more difficult than choosing wall tiles and kitchen floor tiles because it is probably the one area we give a lot of thought to. Home owners want both the beautiful design features of kitchen countertops but they want a tile material that is low maintenance and this is really important, choosing a high maintenance tile that may become damaged will only add to the dissatisfaction felt over time. Tiles installed initially will look fresh and new but over time and use they will begin to look worn and this is when the unsuitability of some wall tiles and countertop tiles becomes apparent.

There are many options of tile materials when it comes to kitchen countertops and they all have their own unique characteristics, advantages and disadvantages.

Ceramic tiles are a inexpensive choice and they work really well as kitchen countertops because they are heat resistant, scratch proof and will not absorb water easily. They come in many styles and a popular design feature is to install larger ceramic tiles which reduces the amount of grout used and gives a real individual design style.

Wood is another popular choice and can really add to the traditional kitchen feel, wood countertops will require sealing but this may not fully protect them from scratches, stains and marks. Wood countertops can however be sanded when required and restored back to their original appearance.

Stainless steel countertops have their place and are really good at combining the contemporary with the modern, they have many advantages by being heat resistant and incredibly easy to clean but stainless steel may change shape over time.  There are other tile materials that can be used to mimic the stainless steel look and feel and there are many mosaic tiles that are ideal as kitchen countertop tiles that will give a similar design appearance.

Granite tiles and granite used for kitchen countertops is a very beautiful material, granite tiles are often used in bathrooms and add real glamour and style, they are the more expensive tile material but if you are looking for beauty and elegance, granite tiles are worth considering.

Granite tiles and granite stone used for kitchen countertops is a beautiful design solution and they will add real glamour and solid design style to the kitchen area. Granite tiles and granite stone has real presence and it will dominate the look and feel of the kitchen area.

Granite countertops will almost certainly need sealing but they are a very durable material that will maintain well over time. Granite tiles come in a wide range of colours and styles that will suit and combine well with almost any other colours used in the kitchen area.

Marble tiles are used on kitchen countertops but are higher maintenance tiles that will require regular maintenance in order to keep them looking good, having said that they are very beautiful tiles that will compliment the kitchen decor beautifully.

There are many options when it comes to kitchen countertop tiles and the choice is largely down to personal preference and home owners should take the time to choose the best tile material for them to ensure they have a countertop tile they are delighted with.
