The Big Social Rewind – Telligent Conference Exceeds Expectations and Lives up to its Name

Oct. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- If one central theme dominated Telligent’s sold-out 2011 conference at the Hyatt Regency last week, it was the overwhelming agreement by speakers and attendees alike that “businesses today must know how to navigate the social ecosystem,” Telligent Founder & CTO Rob Howard proclaimed to the audience full of standing room only attendees.

The Big Social attendees came from as far away as Italy and Australia to hear Howard, considered one of the Top 25 Most Influential SharePoint Thought Leaders in Social Business, present the latest Telligent vision, as well as share best practices that are successfully being used in the enterprise today.

Howard’s points and the general buzz at the conference were echoed by industry analyst Larry Hawes, Principal at Dowbrook Advisory Services. CMSWire journalist, Josette Rigsby interviewed Hawes during the conference, where he talked about his views on the future of social within the enterprise. According to Hawes, “What we have seen in the last couple of years is companies experimenting with social — doing small pilots or different departments within the same organization adopting social technologies for different business reasons. We are quickly leaving the experimentation phase and organizations now are working to tie social technology to support very concrete business objectives and business processes.”

Apptio Director of Online Marketing and Operations Josh Harbert also chimed in on his thoughts about social within the enterprise. “This conference offered great insight into the past, present and future of social within the enterprise,” Harbert says. “The adoption of new social practices at my company and many other companies has been great so far, however in the near future I foresee more companies realizing just how important social is; which I believe will then generate an increased momentum around companies integrating some form of social into their overall business strategy.”

Earlier this year, Telligent announced the launch of its Telligent Enterprise 3.0 and Telligent Community 6.0 suites. Telligent CEO Patrick Brandt says the company has “assertive new developments” which will continue to propel social business forward and continue to carve the social business path for companies.

One such development is Telligent Connect for Facebook, an application for two-way integration between Telligent Community and Facebook.

“Telligent Connect for Facebook enables organizations to benefit from Facebook’s vast online network of more than 800 million people, while bringing the data to an online community that they can manage and own,” Howard explains.

Another industry first announcement was the concept of a pervasive community. It’s the ability to embed any widget from Telligent Community into other websites and applications.  The concept is to write-once in Telligent widget studio and re-use it anywhere, as many times as you like.  

“The possibilities of where you can add social engagement are now endless – no matter where you need to add social engagement, with this feature, you are now simply able to create widgets and drop them into other apps and websites,” Howard says.

Those two key announcements, alongside Telligent Analytics 4.0, FAST search support, Windows Azure support and the release of the new Telligent Enterprise theme are what will continue to lead and further define what Telligent describes as the ‘social ecosystem.’

In addition to the many product announcements that were made during the conference, attendees were able to gain additional knowledge about Telligent products and social in general during the different sessions that were offered. In just three days, Telligent offered attendees more than 45 opportunities to engage in learning about different aspects of community.  The social chatter at The Big Social was so high it hit Dallas’ Twitter trending topics each day during the conference.  

Broadridge Senior Product and Community Manager Mike Mostransky was one of Telligent’s customers that was in attendance at the conference. Besides being a registered attendee, he was also one of the speakers for a session in the business track called “Community in Unexpected Places”. In this session he touched on creative uses of communities and how to build a new business by thinking outside the box. “For me, there’s nothing better than picking up tips from other community managers. Telligent’s emphasis on having customers tell their stories during sessions, versus your standard “how-to seminars”, made this event stand out to me,” Mostransky says.

Throughout the sessions and workshops, speakers shared best practices, case studies and supporting demos about session topics ranging from how to plan, manage and implement a community to a comprehensive overview of the Telligent Evolution platform. Developer jam sessions enabled attendees to gain 1:1 training and learning experience for their business and technical challenges.

“At Telligent we are very ‘BIG’ on social, and community, so it’s only natural to go all out for a conference where our customers and partners are the focal point,” Brandt explains. “From the atmosphere and décor being Texas themed to the authentic barbecue served at The Big Social party to living up to our pledge of customer excellence; we made it a top priority to make sure that the ‘BIG’ aspect of The Big Social was felt by all attendees.”  
This fall Telligent will announce the date for The Big Social ‘12.
