FREE help for employers to manage redundancy

“Employers are falling foul of the New Fair Work Act when managing redundancies - because they rely on their knowledge of how they managed redundancies in the past”, said Bridget Hogg, Principal Consultant of Adelaide’s outplacement firm - HR Development at Work. As the economy dips again, more employers are considering restructuring and redundancies. Some are not aware that the way they managed redundancies in the past may contradict new Fair Work Act laws.

FREE guidance on redundancies is available for local employers - courtesy of a FREE Employer briefing in the Adelaide CBD on October 27th. Local experts, Bridget Hogg, of HR Development at Work, and Margaret Kaukas, of Donaldson Walsh Lawyers, will brief employers on the keys to successful redundancy and answer employers’ questions.

“All modern awards contain a clause requiring employers to consult with employees before implementing major business change that will have a “significant effect” on employees” says Margaret Kaukas, Senior Associate, Donaldson Walsh Lawyers.  “The Fair Work Act provides that a failure to comply with an obligation in a modern award (such as a failure  to consult prior to redundancy) will mean the termination will not be considered a "genuine redundancy", and therefore will be subject to unfair dismissal laws” – even when only one redundancy is involved.

The briefing will cover options to consider and what to prepare before implementing restructuring and redundancy programs. Interested employers can call Bridget Hogg, HR Development at Work on 8322 8455 or email to reserve a place.
