By: Marsha Berenson, WOCNCB Marketing Manager (WOCNCB®) announces the results of a recent election to select four new board members who will begin their service in January, 2012. They are Kay Durkop-Scott, BSN RN CWOCN; Lakewood, CO, Andrea Montgomery-Kylie, BScN RN CWCN COCN; Ewa Beach, HI , Cathryn L. Reimanis, RN MS, ND CNS ANP-BC CWOCN; Golden, CO, and Jill Trelease, BSN RN CWON CFCN; Little Compton, RI “The WOCNCB is gratified by the number of high-caliber nursing professionals who have volunteered to serve with us to carry on our mission to advance patient safety through certification of nurses in the areas of wound, ostomy, continence and foot care,” says Marilyn Swindle, MBA, DNP, RN, CWOCN, the WOCNCB’s Finance Officer and Chair of the Nominations and Awards Committees. “Each new board member brings unique talents and experiences that will help the WOCNCB meet our goals and mission.” Kay Durkop-Scott, an Inpatient CWOCN at Centura Health Porter Adventist Hospital, also consults in WOC at all four Denver-area Adventist hospitals. Kay’s goals for board service include working to fill the growing WOC needs of patients, replace those WOC nurses who are retiring, and encourage certified nurses to become involved in WOC educator and preceptor roles. Andrea Montgomery-Kylie is a Wound and Ostomy Nurse Clinician at The Queen’s Medical Center, Honolulu, where she also serves as the PI Pressure Ulcer Team Chair. Andrea’s goals for board service include continuous validation and re-evaluation of the WOCNCB’s examination questions to assure relevance to current practice trends and evidence base. Cathryn Reimanis is employed at Northwest Surgical Associates in Wheat Ridge, CO, where she is Adult Nurse Practitioner and Surgical 1st Assistant in general surgery for gastrointestinal and vascular patients. Her goals for board service include promoting a stronger understanding and dependence upon evidence-based practice to guide clinical decision-making for certified WOC and foot care nurses. Jill Trelease is Lead Clinician for St. Anne's Center for Wound Healing at Saint Anne's Hospital in Fall River, MA, where she is one of the three founders of the wound clinic. Jill is also the Wound/Ostomy Nurse for Saint Anne's Hospital and supervisor of inpatient wound and ostomy care at Good Samaritan Medical Center. Jill’s goals for board service include focusing on recruiting nurses to the WOC specialties and to certification, developing a “buddy system” for mentoring novice nurses, and creating an online communication forum. # # # About WOCNCB The Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board is a professional organization dedicated to providing consumer safety and protection by offering credentialing in the areas of wound, ostomy, continence and foot care nursing to registered nurses who meet WOCNCB’s stringent qualifications and pass its certification examination.
