Short-Term Orthopedic Recovery Center on the North Shore Celebrates Stellar Director of Nursing

Oct. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- Skokie, Ill. – The ‘new’ Alden Estates of Skokie, the only short-term orthopedic recovery center on the North Shore, has one of the best nurses in the state as its Director of Nursing. Richelle P. Hofilena, RN, is a past recipient of the Health Care Council of Illinois’ ‘Hero in Long Term Care’ award and is a 2011 Illinois Health Care Association Director of Nursing nominee.
Hofilena, who lives in Des Plaines, began her career with Alden as a staff nurse at Alden Des Plaines Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in 2006 and was promoted to Assistant Director of Nursing in May 2007 at Alden Estates of Evanston. While at Evanston, Richelle was promoted to Director of Nursing in late 2007.
   Hofilena is now responsible for managing the day-to-day nursing operations at Alden Estates of Skokie, the newly opened short-term orthopedic recovery center on Old Orchard Rd. in Skokie.
   “I love my job. I get to ensure every single one of my patients is comfortable, healthy and as pain free as possible,” says Hofilena. “I am able to pull from all of the different nursing experiences I have had and bring a skill set to make sure my nurses demonstrate a certain level of expertise not found at other rehabilitation centers.”
   “Richelle is an excellent nurse and we knew she would be the perfect DON for Alden Estates of Skokie,” says Lindsay Broadbent, administrator, Alden Estates of Skokie. “She has a positive attitude that impacts the quality of her work. She always goes ‘above and beyond’ to help co-workers and meet our residents’ needs. She mentors staff members and is always available to ask questions or bounce ideas off of. She works hard and is extremely supportive of her nurses and other staff members.”
   Hofilena holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, as well as an MBA from the University of Saint La Salle Bacolod in the Philippines. She also has a master’s degree in Nursing from West Negros University in the Philippines.
