Oct. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- Now is the time to cut back on traditional marketing and gain ground on your competitors. There are some things you should consider and evaluate to help you keep your marketing program on track, even in a bad economy.

Times like these present companies with opportunities to gain ground on their competitors.

Some of your competitors will stop marketing altogether, and as their name disappears from your industry’s landscape, you can capture the “top of mind” position with your customers and prospects.

Some of your competitors simply won’t remain stable through the downturn and they will either go out of business or become an acquisition for a larger company. Either way, the company that finds cost-effective, creative marketing strategies and continues to make marketing a high priority will be on top when the economy once again gains solid footing.

Update your old website. If your website is getting outdated (more than 3 years old!), invest in a new one or put up a blog that can be linked to your website and updated with new information about your products & services. A good blog will keep your keywords fresh and up-to-date for Google’s algorithms to see, thus keeping your company’s products and services listed on page one on Google keyword searches.

Being on Google page one is vital staying in the game. You must keep your search engine optimized either with a new website and/or a blog and built to draw more traffic.

As you cut back on trade advertising and trade show exhibits, your website/blogsite become an even more powerful marketing tool. A current, keyword rich, search engine optimized website/blogsite, and social media presence are the recipe for landing on the first page of Google search results.

Compared to ongoing print advertising, displays at large, national trade shows, and more traditional marketing tactics, a sound online strategy is a bargain in terms of cost. Cut back on trade magazine ads and trade shows Unless you’re a Fortune 500 company you’ve probably already cut back on your print advertising as compared to 4 or 5 years ago.

Let’s face it: it’s expensive. Running a full page ad in a well circulated trade publication can cost between $5,000 and $9,000 or more PER AD!

Yes, there are less expensive alternatives to print ads: email marketing, viral marketing, social media marketing, YouTube videos, and blogging can be much less expensive and our more accountable than trade media.

Don’t be afraid to try new things. Explore online marketing opportunities? Online versions of trade publications, E-zines, email marketing, and social media like Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, and business blogging all provide great promotional opportunities for minimal cost.

Marketing in today’s economy may be more challenging; but there’s no reason your marketing efforts have to come to a grinding halt. Look at how you market with a fresh pair of eyes, and you may be surprised at how much more you can accomplish – for a lot less money.

The biggest expense we all face in life is time. It is something that you can not recoup. If you don’t really have the time to do it for yourself ant think you may need a little help with your marketing, give us a call, no obligation.
