Ferdon Retires from Georgetown Hospital System Board of Trustees

Oct. 5, 2011 - PRLog -- An era of leadership at Georgetown Hospital System ended recently with Richard J. “Bubber” Ferdon, Jr.’s retirement from the Board of Trustees.

Mr. Ferdon officially retired on October 1, 2011 from his board seat and most recent position as Secretary of the Hospital System and Waccamaw Community Hospital Board Chair, ending a lengthy relationship with the organization. He began his service on the Board in July 1975 and served diligently for 36 years.

During his tenure, Mr. Ferdon held a variety of positions on the Board of Trustees and participated in making many key decisions affecting the availability of healthcare throughout the service area, including several physical and service expansions at Georgetown Memorial Hospital, the construction of Francis B. Ford Cancer Treatment Center, and the construction of Waccamaw Community Hospital.

“Mr. Ferdon’s service to Georgetown Hospital System and to the community has been important in developing the healthcare landscape of our service area.  His knowledge, experience, wisdom and involvement have played key roles in each of the organizational initiatives that have been undertaken in the last 36 years,” said Bruce B. Bailey, Georgetown Hospital System President and CEO.

“We are grateful for Mr. Ferdon’s dedication and commitment to our community health, appreciative of his leadership on the GHS Board of Trustees, and we sincerely wish him well,” Bailey added.
