Colorado Convention Center extends technology contract with Smart City Networks

Key feature will be “Free Wi-Fi” in public spaces

Oct. 5, 2011 - PRLog -- LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colo., has extended its contract with Smart City Networks for technology services and high speed Internet access for another year. As part of the extended contract, the event facility will now offer free Wi-Fi in all public areas, such as lobbies, food courts and hallways.

The new free Wi-Fi service will offer visitors to the Colorado Convention Center a wireless Internet connection to check email or surf the web.  For users with more advanced connectivity needs, like streaming video and downloading documents, upgraded Wi-Fi options will still be available for purchase.

“We continue to work with our building partners to implement technology solutions that meet the changing needs of the event industry,” said Mark Haley, president of Smart City Networks. “More and more people are carrying smart devices that use Wi-Fi, so we are pleased to provide a new, free Wi-Fi service at the Colorado Convention Center that people can utilize for their basic Internet needs.”

Haley added that many people simply use Wi-Fi to check email or surf websites. The new “Free Wi-Fi” product at the Colorado Convention Center will meet these basic needs in the public areas, outside of the exhibit floor, where attendees tend to congregate and get online most.

“We are excited to provide this new amenity at the Colorado Convention Center,” said John Adams, general manager of the Colorado Convention Center. “Smart City Networks has shown a great commitment to meeting our customers’ needs and responding to current trends.  Their ability to create a network that not only supports thousands of users at once but also has the flexibility to offer free Wi-Fi connectivity for basic tasks and upgraded Wi-Fi options for more advanced uses will greatly enhance our visitors’ experience.”

Since 2000, Smart City Networks has provided the event technology services at the Colorado Convention Center under its Priority Networks subsidiary, which it acquired in 2006.  With offices and staff on property, Smart City Networks oversees the provision and maintenance of both wired and wireless Internet services throughout more than 580,000 square feet of convention space as well as in all of the center’s ballrooms and public spaces.

Smart City Networks continues to explore offering similar Wi-Fi services at other facilities nationwide.
