Follow on Google News | ![]() Hip Hop Battles Breast Cancer: Rock And Soul Partners With Mama Luke For Breast Cancer EventRock and Soul is teaming up with Mama Luke, for a Hip Hop Battles Breast Cancer event in NYC on October 13, 2011. The event will feature live hip hop and DJ performances as well as a raffle with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
By: Sharon Bechor Rock and Soul, one of the world’s first DJ shops has seen many of Hip Hop’s biggest stars walk through its doors since 1975. But never for a such a great cause. “We were approached the founder of Mama Luke, a breast cancer movement centered around the Hip Hop community, in hopes of putting together an event” explained Sharon Bechor, owner of Rock and Soul. “It was a perfect fit.” Kangol Kid, a rap artist who founded Mama Luke after his manager’s mother lost a 3-year battle to breast cancer, has used a single pink t-shirt signed by Hip Hop icons to symbolize his mission. The shirt is now covered with signatures by Will Smith, Salt-n-Pepa, Naughty by Nature, Kool Herc, Doug E. Fresh, LL Kool J, and many others. The public event is taking place on Thursday, October 13th, from 4pm to 6:30pm at Rock and Soul, will feature performances by DJs and Hip Hop artists including, DJ Diamond (original DJ for EPMD, Beyonce, PRINCE, MTV's Making the Band), Doctor Ice (UTFO/Whodini) There will be a raffle for the opportunity to win great equipment from companies like Skullcandy, Pioneer, Odyssey and others who are donating items for the event. Rock and Soul is also asking all of its customers to “round up for breast cancer” on purchases made at the store through October. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.
