Oct. 4, 2011 - PRLog -- Canton, CONNECTICUT – Invata, a global provider of supply chain and facilities optimization, software and controls, today released the third in a series of expert videos from noted industry experts. The interview highlights key transportation challenges faced by supply chain managers.

In this segment, DC Velocity Senior Editor Mark Solomon examines the triple threat facing transportation and supply chain managers. While transportation and logistics play an enormous role in meeting customer service goals – and are a critical factor in operating a lean organization – oftentimes the transportation factor and its potential risks are overlooked. Mr. Solomon highlights the triple threat risk drivers supply chain professionals are dealing with: volatile fuel costs, shortage of available trucks and new hours of service regulations.

He also posits that if demand for freight increases, freight rates will again skyrocket over the next two to three years. Though we have already seen an 8-9% increase this year and will possibly see as much as a 15-17% increase in 2012, Mr. Solomon suggests that the best strategy to work around cost pressures is simply to have a better relationship with your carrier.
