Follow on Google News | ![]() Elgood Effective Learning Launches 10 Step Design Process for Business Simulation GamesElgood Effective Learning, a leading provider of bespoke business simulation games to the corporate sector, today launched a new 10 step design process which delivers expert advice on how to create an effective simulation.
By: Alison Pavitt Managing Director Christine Elgood identified the need for this kind of specialist advice having worked in the sector for many years. She explains the scenario which commonly faces learning and development professionals: “Imagine the situation: one of your business unit leaders has requested some specialised training, or your CEO has decided that the organisation is changing direction and has asked you to find an engaging way to communicate new ideas. Simulations are proven to be a highly effective way of achieving your goals, and experiential learning delivers results that really ‘stick’. However, when the learning situation is specific to your business, an off-the-shelf solution may not hit your targets. We know that embarking upon a bespoke design can be daunting. Here at Elgood we’ve worked with a wide range of industries through changing economic conditions, and have honed a 10 step design process which covers the key stages of development. We’re making this available to the wider learning and development community in a bid to demystify the process, highlight some of the potential pitfalls, and raise the effectiveness of bespoke training experiences.” The paper, which can be downloaded from the Elgood website, highlights the importance of setting clear objectives and gaining agreement from all parties, and covers such key topics as closely defining the audience; the mechanics of creating a prototype, and establishing the best format on which to base the simulation. Christine summarises some of the key lessons as follows: “Firstly, it is vital to start the process with a clear objective. To quote Yogi Bear, if you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll end up someplace else. Also, bear in mind that simplicity beats complexity every time, so avoid the temptation to over complicate the simulation by trying to encompass too many objectives: focus on the top three which will really make a difference to the organisation. And finally, always consider the skills and abilities of the end facilitator: To find out more about Elgood Effective Learning’s experience and bespoke business simulation designs, and to download the 10 step design process, visit www.chris-elgood.co.uk or call 0118 982 1115. # # # Elgood Effective Learning are market leaders in the creation and facilitation of business simulation games.
