Americus Woman Named Finalist in Betty Crocker’s First Gluten Free Recipe Contest

Oct. 4, 2011 - PRLog -- AMERICUS, GA – October 3, 2011 – Susan Egelseer, owner of Americus Garden Inn Bed and Breakfast in Americus, Georgia has been recognized as one of ten finalists in the first ever Betty Crocker Baker’s Challenge Gluten Free Recipe Contest. Entrants were challenged to create an original gluten free holiday-themed appetizer, bread or dessert recipe, using any Betty Crocker Gluten Free dessert mix or Bisquick Gluten Free baking mix.

“As friends and family gather for the holidays finding recipes that everyone can enjoy, regardless of food limitations, isn’t always easy,” said Alison Miller, Marketing Manager, Betty Crocker Gluten Free Mixes.  “With the Betty Crocker Baker’s Challenge Gluten Free Recipe Contest, we’re so excited to share delicious dishes, perfect for the holiday season and your next get-together. We welcome you to try the finalists’ recipes and vote on your favorite!”

The call for entries resulted in over a thousand delicious gluten free recipe ideas. In addition to being gluten free, submitted recipes were judged on five key categories including taste, creativity, ease of preparation, consumer appeal and appearance. The Grand Prize winner will be awarded $5,000 and the chance to be featured on a Betty Crocker® Gluten Free dessert mix or Bisquick® Gluten Free baking mix package and/or be featured in a Betty Crocker publication.

Susan Egelseer earned a spot among the top ten recipes for her Decadent Chocolate Chip Almond Scones. “As for the inspiration behind my recipe, like so many other people who have been diagnosed with gluten intolerance or Celiac disease, I first felt incredibly deprived.  It seemed that everyone else could enjoy everything, and there were very few delicious choices for me.  But I was absolutely thrilled when I discovered that my Decadent Chocolate Almond Scone recipe could be modified to be made with Gluten Free Bisquick with fabulous results,” said Egelseer.

Consumers can vote for their favorite recipe on GlutenFreely.com/BakersChallenge.  Online voting runs through October 15, 2011, and will determine the winner of the Betty Crocker Baker’s Challenge Gluten Free Recipe Contest, which will be announced in early November.
