Manitou Cave is the oldest tourist attraction in North Alabama. Opened to the public in 1890 by the Fort Payne Coal and Iron Company. Manitou Cave had up to 300 visitors a day in the 1890s. This was a very popular public hangout, as picnics and dances were held in the ballroom of the cave. Manitou Cave is no longer open to the public, but these private trips into the heart of the cave are available! Explore this unique cave that is rich in local history for yourself.
