U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan To Hold Twitter Town Hall Educational Excellence For HispanicsTwitter Town Hall Event With Latinos In Social Media (LATISM) To Kick-Off White House Hispanic Educational Excellence Week
Sept. 30, 2011 - PRLog -- WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will participate in a Twitter town hall moderated by White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics Director Juan Sepúlveda on Monday. Secretary Duncan and Sepúlveda will discuss how Hispanic success in education is important to America’s economy and respond to questions submitted on Twitter.
The interactive activity kicks-off a week of White House events designed to bring attention to the importance of educational excellence during Hispanic Heritage month. Hispanics are the largest minority group in the nation’s public education system with more than 1 in 5 students in the country’s elementary, middle and high schools. The town hall will include participants from across the country who follow the White House Initiative’s @HispanicEd. Twitter users will begin posting questions today and continue to post questions through Monday using the hashtag #HispanicEd. Community leaders and media representatives will help flag questions through retweets on Twitter. The White House Initiative has joined with Telemundo Network, mun2 Television and LATISM, a Latino social media organization, to curate conversations for the event.
