The new edition of “Living on 99 Cents”, the popular 30-page report that has taught thousands of shoppers how to save money in these difficult times, has again been updated to reflect the changes in the American economy.
Wes Sass, author of the report, explains why: “Again this year, the economy has changed to a degree where new tactics are needed to save the amount of money we know it is possible to save, and people need it more than ever before.” The report, which uses careful shopping in discount and dollar stores as its main strategy, has show shoppers how to save up to 70% on thousands of everyday items, from food and drink to household items, clothing, electronics and more. Its popular “Living on 99 Cents at the Holidays” report was released earlier last fall for the fifth year.  That report had to be updated as well.
“As long as unemployment hovers around 10%, the end of the current recession doesn’t seem to be in sight”, Sass explains.  “People are hurting, and they need to find ways to save every penny they can.  We try to give them options that are simple and effective if followed correctly.” Sass and his staff are attempting to work with local, state and national government organizations this year to deliver their message to those who need it most.  He explains that although his ideas on saving money are being followed more than ever before, there are still thousands of people in need that are missing out on the opportunity to save money that is important to them. Three basic tips that Sass gives are as follows: “First, always make a finalized shopping list before you go out, and then don’t buy anything not on the list! Secondly, decide on an amount that you can spend and do not go over that amount!  And thirdly, shop in both regular and discount stores, and make lists of the costs of your needed items in each-Sometimes the regular store has the best price!”.
