By: Baani The Delhi episode of the Billion Hearts Beating campaign was marked with the ashtray road show. With Gen-next to champion the list of smokers today, ‘The Largest Ashtray’ in the world moved around the Campuses of Delhi University on Wednesday and Thursday. The huge van with music and the youth icon Rannvijay as Chief BHB Crusader for No Smoking, took the ashtray himself through North Campus to motivate youngsters to kick the butt .The Kick Butt Road show aimed to reach out to youngsters in the vicinity of their college campus to make them aware about the need to quit smoking to keep their heart healthy. Mr Jaideep Gupta Managing Director Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals said, “Through this youth oriented initiative, Billion Heart Beating campaign tried to convince the students of Delhi University to quit smoking for a healthy heart. There are huge amount of facts which support the bond between smoking and the health of our heart. The campaign aims at making people aware about small changes to be made in lifestyle to make one’s heart beat in the tune of a healthy heart.” Dr Anupam Sibal, Group Medical Director, Apollo Hospitals explains “The objective of this ashtray event is to spread awareness and encourage positive action among the youth. Youth can lead by example and influence the society and this campaign is an effort is to bring that change.’ As shared by Rannvijay, “Being an ex-student of Delhi University, I completely relate to and understand the mindset of Delhi University students. So I tried to encourage the students to stay away from this vice by setting my own example of being a non-smoker. In order to reduce the number of smokers, it is important to keep a check on youth who are taking up smoking, especially due to peer pressure to simply 'fit in' or to appear 'cool'. It's been rightly said that its not you who's smoking but the cigarette that is sucking you! BHB has chosen quite an innovative way of spreading the message throughout the young crowd.” Roadie’s famed actor will soon be seen in the Nagesh Kukunoor’s next movie Mod. The movie will also showcase Ayesha Takia, after being the director’s favorite for earning critical acclaim for her performance in the movie Dor. Smoking is quite commonly associated with the style statement of the youth today. And targeting the college students to convince them to stop at this age to avoid the problems later, turned out to be a successful endeavor of BHB.
