Oxygen Transmission Property Test of Blister Packaging

Blister packaging need to have very excellent oxygen transmission property so as to prevent deterioration during validity period.
 
Sept. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- Blister packaging is transparent in appearance, clear in display, convenient for usage and light in weight; thus, it has been widely applied in solid pharmaceutical packaging as an effective protective means for contents. Blister packaging need to have very excellent oxygen transmission property so as to prevent deterioration during validity period. Thus, it has been clearly stipulated in the relevant standards for the oxygen transmission property, which is a key index for manufacturers. Hereinafter, this article is to briefly introduce the oxygen transmission property test of blister packaging with Labthink OX23/230 Oxygen Transmission Rate Test System.

Blister packaging refers to the packaging means that seals the content in between a preformed transparent plastic blister and a backing of paperboard, plastic film, plastic sheet, aluminum foil, or compounds, etc. Oxygen transmission property of blister packaging is referred to its barrier property against oxygen, which is an important factor that could influence shelf life of blister packed pharmaceuticals thus provides a critical reference to the shelf life analysis. Through oxygen transmission property test, oxidization and deterioration problems caused by oxygen sensitiveness could be evaluated. Coulometric method is adopted by Labthink OX2/230 Oxygen Transmission Rate Test System. The working principle of Labthink OX2/230 Oxygen Transmission Rate Test System is as follows: place the preconditioned blister package specimen into the testing chamber, then, high pure nitrogen flows in the package; air or pure oxygen flows outside the package. Owing to the condensation difference of oxygen, oxygen molecules permeate through the specimen and enter into the high pure nitrogen side, which is then carried to the sensor by the flowing nitrogen. Then the oxygen transmission rate could be obtained by analyzing the oxygen condensation detected by the sensor and the oxygen transmission property of the specimen could be evaluated. Labthink OX2/230 Oxygen Transmission Rate Test System is fully automatic, controlled by computer and it has 3 testing chambers integrated in one block (Labthink patent). Clamp the specimen, click Test button, and the test will be started automatically with auto control of temperature, humidity, flow rate and other indexes, then the test system will automatically judge the test status and provide with test report when testing is competed. Labthink OX2/230 could connect 9 satellite modules connect 9 satellite modules, which could be the Oxygen Transmission Rate Test System and Water Vapor Transmission Rate Test System, thus it could process 30 specimens simultaneously.
