2012 Chevrolet Sonic Makes Debut

Like the fact that the car gets 40 mpg hwy with both manual and automatic transmissions.  And it has power when you need it – 138 hp with 148 lb-ft of torque, more than its competitor, the Ford Fiesta.  Critics are impressed with the comfortable, quiet ride and rear seat leg room.  The interior dash also has a futuristic look similar to designs found on motorcycles to appeal to a young demographic.

Potential customers will find that Chevrolet has put a lot of extras into the Sonic.  Alloy wheels are standard, as well as a six-month subscription to OnStar Directions & Connections program that includes navigation.  The Chevy Sonic also has an engine that is designed to absorb a frontal impact and 10 airbags that come standard.

The Sonic features a new hill-hold technology.  A pitch sensor detects the tilt of the body when the car is stopped on a slope and sends a signal to the stability control system.  This triggers a brake that will keep the wheels clamped for up to two seconds after the driver releases the brake pedal, preventing any kind of roll back or forward so the driver can safely apply the accelerator and let out the clutch for a smooth start.
