Sept. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- Smokey the cat has the loudest purr on the planet – and now she’s revving up her lawnmower-like voice for this year’s LovePets Show.
As the new Guinness World Record-holder and a recent ambassador for Cats Protection, she’s the purrfect feline guest at the great-value family day out for people who are passionate about their pets.
Smokey will meet hundreds of visitors to the LovePets Show on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 October, and because she loves being the centre of attention, her purring is hoped to reach thunderous levels.
Having clocked a peak of 67.7dB to set the Guinness World Record this year, she’s officially louder than the average conversation and is capable of purrs topping 90dB when measured at close distance – as loud as a lawnmower, a diesel engine or a newspaper press.
The reason for the graceful tabby’s incredible voice isn’t clear, although having been re-homed eight times in her 12 years, she’s obviously tickled pink to be living with Ruth Adams and family, on the Northamptonshire farm she shares with fellow cats Sooty and Puss-Puss, two dogs, two ponies, a horse, goats, hens and goldfish.
Ruth said: “Smokey is a lovely cat and a big personality. She’s a bit of a diva and craves attention, so she should be in her element at the LovePets Show. She purrs like a pigeon cooing when she’s comfy, but she’s at her loudest first thing in the morning when she likes to drop deafening hints that it’s time for breakfast!”
Since the start of this year Smokey’s purr has gone global, and she has been filmed by America’s ABC news, broadcast via satellite link to five million viewers of NBC news, as well as being featured in the Huffington Post, on Ukrainian and New Zealand TV, and on BBC World Service radio.
With the new Guinness World Records 2012 book having just gone on sale, plus a semi-biographical account of Smokey’s rise to stardom (Smokey: The Very Loud Purring Cat, DB Publishing, £6.99), fame is set to continue for the feline, and she has even had a rubber stamp of her paw made for book signings – and her purr is available as a mobile phone ring tone!
LovePets features an exciting celebrity line-up, with TV vet Marc Abraham hosting the show and telling humorous tales from his life as a vet, and opera-singing Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists Pippa Langhorne and pup, Buddy, among the many attractions in the main arena.
Joining them over the LovePets weekend will be a wealth of family entertainment including fast-paced ferret-racing, captivating displays of dog agility and the chance to meet an amazing giant tortoise, intriguing reptiles, magnificent birds of prey and cuddly creatures of all shapes and sizes.
Dog behaviour experts Jez Rose and Karen Wild will be sharing training tips, a team of huskies will be displaying their sled-pulling skills, and there will be a miniature Shetland ponies presentation.
Cats Protection will be matching pets looking for love with new owners through a ‘rehoming wall’, and is one of the many charities and animal-loving groups that will be attending with examples of the pets and wildlife they have supported.
There will also be a multitude of stands and stalls offering the chance to pick up goodies from top pet stores and suppliers from across the UK.
LovePets is sponsored by Mars Petcare, Zoflora, Welcome Cottages, Direct Line Insurance, Your Dog, and Your Cat Magazine. The event takes place at the indoor EXEC venue at the East of England Showground, Peterborough, just off the A1. While visitors won’t be allowed to bring their own pets into the venue, there will be plenty of animals inside to make a fuss of. Parking for the pet exhibition is free.
Tickets pre-booked now at www.lovepetsshow.co.uk offer a substantial saving, with online family tickets (two adults and three children) just £12. Nominated animal welfare charities will receive 10 per cent of ticket sales.
