Sept. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Navaratri is celebrated by millions of Hindus across the world as a festival of song and dance. The true significance of Navaratri though is the special worship of the Divine Shakti (female Energy) principle for nine nights. This is done by reciting holy verses in praise of the Goddess principle, the continuous burning of a ghee lamp in a pot, garlanding of the Goddesses, etc. Rituals and penances that help in spiritual progress are also undertaken with ardent devotion. Navaratri starts on the Hindu lunar date of Ashwin shukla pratipada which falls on September 28th this year.

The Goddess is worshipped during this time because the female Energy (Shakti) combated the demon Mahishasur for nine days from the first day and finally slayed him on the ninth night. Also during the nine days of Navaratri, Shree Durgadevi along with her nine weapons pervades the Universe. During these nine days there is a continuous war between the distressing frequencies transmitted by the negative energies and the Divine Consciousness (chaitanya) frequencies. The significance of worshipping the pot and the holy lamp during this time is because the pot denotes the scorching heat and the holy lamp is the symbol of the radiance created by the primal Divine Energy (Aadishakti) during this war. The act of worshipping the pot also awakens the destroyer aspect of Shree Durgadevi and wipes out the distressing frequencies present in the atmosphere.

Similarly, there are spiritual reasons behind all the traditional observances of Navaratri. For example, performing Garba with three claps is the ideal method because the destroyer form of the Goddess is awakened by the musical rhythm of three claps through the frequencies of desire (ichchha), action (kriya) and knowledge (dnyan), representing the Bramha, Vishnu and Mahesh principles.

On this auspicious occasion of Navaratri, the Forum for Hindu Awakening sends greetings to everyone interested in understanding, living or preserving Hinduism, and urges all Hindus to celebrate Navaratri in a spiritually correct way. To derive the maximum benefit of the Divine Energy principle, which is about a 1000 times more manifest than normal during Navratri, one can chant 'Shree Durgadevyai Namah' as much as possible during this period and observe the rituals of lighting the lamp, singing devotional hymns, etc.
