Heart of Rock-Benefit concert event to raise funds for medical bills and a much needed triple bypass

Sept. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- Every once in a while we get to do great things for great people. Gary Crawford is one of those people. You will rarely see Gary without a smile on his face, laughing and joking about well, just about anything. What you will not see is just how much Gary has endured, what he is struggling with and the help he desperately needs. To say the last few years have been trying is a severe understatement. Since late 2009, Gary has been battling with one medical catastrophe after another. His strength, determination and character are a testament as to what one person can truly battle through and overcome. In November 2009, Gary was involved in a hit and run motorcycle accident. Gary does not have medical insurance and therefore he was denied the crucial surgery. to repair his crushed leg. In an amazing feat many could not do, Gary learned how to set and cast his broken leg on his own and did so for months until he was out of a wheel chair and walking again. On the heels of trying to recover from this accident, Gary had a heart attack in September 2010. He had emergency surgery and stints and fought his way back from another severe medical scare. Gary has prescriptions that are basically keeping him alive until he can have the triple bypass surgery he needs. Unfortunately a self employed single father finds it difficult to pay  for expensive monthly prescriptions that are on top of the mounting medical bills and cannot foresee the ability to pay for another surgery.

Unbelievable to most, we get the shocking recent news in August 2011 that Gary has once again suffered a heart attack. Now is the time for us to rally for Gary as he has done for so many. Gary has given his heart to the people of our community and now it is time we take care of it. Baylor Hospital has offered to waive the hospital costs of the surgery estimated at over half a million dollars which includes the surgery room and lengthy hospital stay. First Gary has to pay for the hospital staff and doctors which is an estimated $60,000.

A father, an entrepreneur, a community leader and a friend. Gary has been a long time self employed entrepreneur in our community. Gary owned and operated Gary's Spot in Tomball, Texas from 2005-2010. People came from all over Texas to watch bands from all over the world perform at Gary's Spot and enjoy the environment that Gary created. In 2009, the Houston Chronicle listed Gary's Spot as one of the "101 Must See Attractions in 2009" along side NASA, The Renaissance Festival and the Rodeo. Gary brought live local music to Tomball and the surrounding areas and breathed fun and excitement into the city. He held numerous benefits for people, churches and charities throughout those years, always focused on the betterment of the community, people and businesses around him. Gary sits on the Board of Directors for the Tomball High School Alumni and has thrown large city festivals with this association.

Gary is an amazing single dad to his teenage son Hunter who is active in sports such as football. You'll be sure to see Gary cheering on his son at his football games and sharing quality time with him. Gary is also furthering his own education and working on obtaining his Master's Degree in Marriage and Relationship Counseling with focus on drug and substance abuse. Gary actively performs wedding and union ceremonies all over Texas; varying in themes, beliefs and cultures.

Gary works with Air Purification of Houston marketing  their Enviromax Filter as well as still consults in the communication industry.

As if all of this was not enough, Gary also runs No Cover Magazine in Houston and Austin. Gary has continued to carry the torch of live local music beyond Gary's Spot. Creating more than just a printed publication, he is building a true community of musicians and talented people with many events, mixers, picnics and more. Gary truly is the Heart of Rock.
