Oct. 31, 2011 - PRLog -- Firstat Nursing Services, a premier home nursing agency and home health agency in San Diego, CA is supporting The Parkinson's Association of San Diego by attending The 9th Annual Parkinson's Spirit of Life Gala will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2011.

The Parkinson's Association of San Diego (PASD) provides support and education for more than 60,000 people affected by Parkinson's locally and beyond.  Parkinson's is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects movement, as well as the sensory and non-motor systems.  The good news is someone diagnosed today can look forward to many years of nearly normal activity by adopting a positive attitude, exercising regularly and following a physician's advice.

“The Parkinson's Association of San Diego is a great organization,” says Linnea Goodrich, president of Firstat Nursing Services.  “The annual event is a great way gain awareness for this disease and benefit Parkinson’s.  Festivities will be emceed by renowned auctioneer Bill Menish, and proceeds from the event help us improve quality of life for more than 60,000 individuals and family members personally affected by Parkinson's.

The Parkinson's Association of San Diego (PASD) traces its roots to a small support group for Parkinson's patients and their caregivers,  founded in 1980 by Dr. Robert Mowry and his wife, Mary.  After meeting for several years, the group caught the attention of the national American Parkinson's Disease Association (APDA), headquartered in New York. APDA asked the group to establish a local chapter.

PASD continues to work closely with the national American Parkinson Disease Association through co-sponsorship of many of our services, programs and educational events.  We are proud of this relationship and believe that collaborating where possible is the best way to ensure the greatest benefit to the Parkinson families we serve.
