By: Dr. Keith M. Miller Dr. Miller has been leading the sports medicine & chiropractic team since 2008. The sports medicine team is made up of a group of passionate volunteers spanning multiple disciplines including chiropractic, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and pain management doctors to name a few. The event draws thousands of walkers and tens of thousands of spectators each year in order to help raise money for breast cancer awareness & research. When asked about his affiliation to the organization Dr Miller replied,”this is a cause that is near and dear to my heart. My mother is a breast cancer survivor. I have had many patients, over the years, who have not been so lucky. Our role as the sports medicine team is to take care of the ‘walking wounded’ to make sure that whether they are walking for a loved one, or are a survivor themselves, that we are there to make certain that they have a functional sports medicine team to assist them in completing the entire 60 miles.” “People often think that since it’s ‘just a walk’ and that it is an easy event. That cannot be farther from the truth. Most of the walkers begin preparing for the event several months in advance, and it’s not uncommon for injuries to occur. Many walkers do not make it to the end of the full 60 miles mostly due to sports medicine related injuries. It is our teams’ job to get as many of them to the finish line on their own two feet as possible.” Dr. Miller is a member of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), and is a Board Member and District Director of the Pennsylvania Chiropractic Association (PCA). In 2009 Dr. Miller won the Pennsylvania Chiropractic Associations “Chiropractor of the Year,” an award voted on by the active doctor members of the PCA. ************ To contact Dr. Miller about this article or to make an appointment: 215-703-9999 or DrMiller@DrSpine.net # # # Dr. Miller graduated with honors from Rutgers College where he was a Division I NCCAA Athlete.
