Patrick D. McCoy presents CAAPA Award to legendary musician Richard Smallwood

The Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts presented its 7th Annual "Melody of Art" Pre Congressional Black Caucus reception hosted by Dale and Terri Allen. The honoree was Richard Smallwood for his accomplishments in the arts.

Sept. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- The legendary gospel musician Richard Smallwood was presented the CAAPA Award at the 7th Annual "Melody of Art" Pre Congressional Black Caucus Reception.  It was held at Bobby McKey's at The National Harbor.  Richard Smallwood was honored for his numerous contributions to music, especially his unique blending of classical and gospel music.  Patrick D. McCoy, a member of the Coaliton for African Americans in the Performing Arts Board of Director presented Smallwood with the award.  Guest performers included Concert Pianist Dana Morgan, tenor Terrence Bradford Tarver, soprano Detra Battle, tenor Wayne Jennings, soprano Angeli Ferette and a performance by The Washington Youth Choir.

As ”The African American Voice in Classical Music," Patrick D. McCoy interviewed Smallwood in an hour long interview, discussing his celebrated career.  "It was an honor to present the award to a musician that I have admired for a long time.  I am most appreciative to Terri Allen and CAAPA for the opportunity." said McCoy in a recent statement.
