Beneath The Surface Exhibition opens at IAO Gallery

Sept. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- Beneath the Surface is a collaboration between four Oklahoma artists: Gayle Curry, Natalie Friedman, Janice Mathews-Gordon, and Diana J Smith. The exhibition will debut at IAO Gallery, 706 W. Sheridan, on October 14th and be on display through November 5th. Opening reception is Friday, October 14th, from 6:00-9:00 pm.

Four Oklahoma artists, each intrigued by the indelible bond between art and nature, have spent a yearlong journey creating a distinct body of work. When grouped together, the art encompasses the full realm of their personal and spiritual lives, and reveals how nature has interacted and affected each of them.  

Gayle Curry explores the spiritual aspects of nature through artistic interpretation of ancient Chinese teachings. Natalie Friedman unearths the natural and architectural design elements underlying the ages-old tranquility and beauty of the Japanese garden. Janice Mathews-Gordon searches for the emotional link between our roots and the land that surrounds us. Diana J Smith traces the evolutionary path from the wolf to today’s canine companions.

Their collective goal is to expose the latent elements of nature, and to express them in their respective mixed media styles. They will be guiding the viewer to delve deeply, exploring what lies Beneath the Surface.
