Lawyer claims "Peace more profitable than war"

In an International Peace Day interview, the founder of the I Declare World Peace project argued that peace would generate trillions and that war profiteers were missing the boat.
Sept. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- Lawrence R. Gelber, the New York lawyer and co-founder of the I Declare World Peace project, in a dynamic 12 ½ minute interview with as part of the September 21 International Day of Peace celebrations, made two key announcements: (i) Peace is possible and (ii) peace is profitable.

Gelber first discussed the role of social media in expanding “peace consciousness” and the part the I Declare World Peace project is playing in that expansion. Gelber noted that social media afford opportunities never before available in history, including the opportunity to implant the acceptance of peace in the consciousness of humanity, and so make peace truly possible on a global scale.

But he then took a surprise controversial turn, claiming that peace is financially more profitable than war.  In his most dramatic statement of the interview Gelber said that war profiteers were “selling a diamond for the price of spinach,” because while they make billions from war, they could be making trillions from peace.

Gelber cited to a statement on a Global Peace Index site that: “If the world had been 25% more peaceful over the past year the global economy would have reaped an additional economic benefit of just over US$2 trillion.”
