Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series Makes Final Stop In Hermosa Beach This Weekend

Sept. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- Hermosa Beach, Calif.  – After last weekend’s successful stop in Miami Beach and an impressive kick off event at the legendary Manhattan Beach Open in August, the $500,000 Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series will conclude its tour at the Hermosa Beach Open on Sept. 23-25, 2011.  Produced by IMG and USA Volleyball (USAV), the tournament will feature a field of 32 teams per gender in a three-day, double elimination battle for prize money and the highly coveted Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series National Championship title.  Detailed series information is available at www.josecuervoprobeachvolleyballseries.com.

The Hermosa Beach Open will feature several of Hermosa Beach’s local pro athletes such as Casey Jennings, Christal Engle, Evan Engle, Jenny Snyder, Aaron Wachtfogel, Joe Dykstra and other top USA beach volleyball players battling for a piece of the $150,000 prize purse, the highly coveted Jose Cuervo National Championship trophy and series titles.  The Men’s finals will be televised LIVE on VERSUS on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 3:00 p.m. with highlights from the preceding women’s final match.

Fans can expect to see Manhattan Beach Open and Miami Beach Pro Men’s champs Sean Scott (Redondo Beach, CA) and John Hyden (Sherman Oaks, CA) going for a series sweep and top rated teams such as Manhattan Beach Open Women’s champs Whitney Pavlik (Laguna Beach, CA) and Jenny Kropp (Hollyglen, CA), Miami Beach Pro Women’s winners Lauren Fendrick (Redondo Beach, CA) and Brooke Hanson (Ventura, CA) and top-seeded pros Sean Rosenthal (Redondo Beach, CA) and Jake Gibb (Costa Mesa, CA).

"I'm so excited to play in a professional tournament domestically period, and to have a chance to play in my own backyard is even better," said pro beach volleyball veteran Casey Jennings (Manhattan Beach).  "Hermosa beach is and has always been one of the best places to play beach volleyball in the world.  We are fortunate to have it back!  The fans the atmosphere- it is going to be exciting for everyone involved and I'm looking forward to every bit of this weekend!"

He added, "I've been fortunate enough to have won the Hermosa Beach open a few years ago.  Winning this tournament again now that I have two boys would mean the world to me."

The Hermosa Beach Open will include a center court stadium with VIP skyboxes, bleacher seating for over 2,000 plus six ancillary courts.  Additional highlights include a welcome center, merchandise store and festival village with an expected 40,000 in attendance over the three-day weekend.  Tentative match times are Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday’s Semi-Finals from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m, the Women’s Finals at 1:00 p.m. and Men’s Finals Live on VERSUS at 3 p.m.

The Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series kicked off at the $200,000 Manhattan Beach Open in Aug. 26-28 and continued onto its second stop at the Miami Beach Pro on Sept. 16-18.  The series offers a combined prize purse of $500,000, the most in the U.S. this year.


Jose Cuervo’s beach volleyball roots can be traced to 1978 when they became the sport’s first major sponsor.  Cuervo again played a significant role in the sport during the mid-80’s ultimately leading to the Cuervo Gold Crown in 1988, considered the Triple Crown of beach volleyball.  The Gold Crown events were among the first televised in the sport and helped pave the way for pro beach volleyball to become an Olympic sport.
