Sept. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- As public concern mounts about rocketing domestic fuel bills, Ravenheat Managing Director Louis Pickersgill has called on installers to help focus homeowners’ minds on saving energy this winter.

It is estimated that fuel poverty, defined as households spending more than 10 per cent of their disposable income on fuel, affects between four to six million people in the UK. Can any of us afford to waste energy and money?

Research shows the average home can save £250 a year by being more energy efficient, yet 44 per cent of people haven’t taken the first step. So for installers it is an ideal opportunity to educate and inform.

The Energy Saving Trust will outline steps we can all take during Energy Saving Week (October 24-28). Improving a boiler’s efficiency is an obvious place to start.

Mr Pickersgill explained that this was the driving force behind the development of Ravenheat’s award-winning Energycatcher, which employs a Flue Gas Heat Recovery System (FGHRS), to instantly cut fuel costs.

“When the boiler is operating to heat the radiators, Energycatcher recycles the latent heat gases, normally expelled into the atmosphere, and uses them to preheat stored incoming water – effectively providing a free supply,” said Mr Pickersgill.

Energycatcher benefits are immediate, with instant hot water, less cold water wastage, higher efficiency but most importantly smaller bills. It is fully tested, approved by the Energy Saving Trust and certified. It is estimated that Energycatcher pays for itself within two to three years.

“People feel that apart from switching utility supplier, the size of their energy bill is out of their control,” said Mr Pickersgill. “We want to educate homeowners, landlords and specifiers that this is not the case – affordable and manageable steps can be taken to improve your energy efficiency without having to invest in a new heating system.

“The Energycatcher is calculated to raise overall efficiency levels of a SEDBUK ‘A’ rated boiler from 91% to 97% in space heating mode by collecting heat from the boiler exhaust fumes, along with a 52% gas saving in domestic hot water mode. This will reduce the household’s overall gas bill by 7%,” he added.
