Sept. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- Less than 2 weeks ago, the imagination of modern sculptor Joshua Harker went out to the world through his new project on the wildly popular crowd funding site, Kickstarter.com. The project, dubbed “Crania Anatomica Filigre: Me to You”, is an exploration of creative & alternative ways for artists to reach a larger audience. It is awe inspiring and has been featured across the web and lit up the internet blog circuit. The project was fully funded within the first 8 hours and is on track to become the most funded sculpture project in Kickstarter history.  It currently sits at their tenth position in Arts overall.  With over a month more to go it seems Joshua has surely proven what he set out to do.

For those unfamiliar with Kickstarter, it is an online community populated and powered by inspired creators and passionate backers. Creative projects are backed by pledges, and the pledges are backed with rewards. You make a pledge you get a reward...very straight forward and very functional.

The sculpture at the center of all this activity is entitled “Crania Anatomica Filigre”. It's a delicate filigree skull that is built on a 3D printer. Harker, who hails from Chicago, has been a pioneer in the art of sculpture, using emerging 3-D printing technologies and sculptural software to turn his abstract visions into labyrinth-like works of art. For the first time, forms of this organic complexity can be successfully developed and reproduced.

“I believe this boon of technology is a revolutionary time for the arts and one which will be boldly marked in history,” said Harker, who is among just a few pioneering artist's using these emerging technologies & mediums to push the envelope of what can be done 3-dimensionally. “I am inspired to be part of a movement that celebrates a new approach to art creation and production.”
