Sept. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- The South Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® named Penny Westberry as its executive director. The appointment marks a new era of leadership at the South Florida Affiliate, which also hired Carrie Kufta to lead fundraising efforts for the Affiliate as director of development.

“Our Affiliate is all about neighbors helping neighbors get the breast cancer care that they need,” said David Ragsdale, President of the Board. “Penny Westberry shares our passion and will help more Palm Beach, Martin, and St. Lucie residents gain access to screening, education and treatments.”

An effective leader with significant nonprofit management experience, Westberry was Chief Executive Officer for the Early Learning Coalition of Broward County, Inc. for nearly ten years. During her tenure, she led growth efforts at the $94 million human services agency, directing early care and education services as well as cultivating community partnerships and donor relationships.

Over the past decade she also served as a consultant to nonprofit organizations in North Carolina, New York, and Florida providing training and strategic planning services. She has served as Board Chair of Healthy Start Coalition of Broward and has been a member of the United Way’s Education Committee and the Child Care Licensing Advisory Board.

“Seventy-five percent of net proceeds generated by the Affiliate go to saving lives right here in South Florida,” explains Westberry. “It’s my goal to make sure our Komen Affiliate does a better job year after year of engaging the community and making sure they know we are here for them.”

Carrie Kufta will contribute to the Affiliate’s mission in the role of director of development. She brings experience in donor cultivation and fundraising on behalf of local nonprofits. Previously, Kufta served as the Vice President of Development for Alzheimer’s Community Care in West Palm Beach. In her position, she managed fundraising efforts in Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie counties.   She also led development and public relations efforts at the Humane Society of the Palm Beaches.
