Focusing on the impacts of disruptions and the cost of fossil fuels, Mr. Cooke makes the point that major companies and key supply chain executives should be re-examining their supply chain on an annual basis.    

He also posits that supply chain leaders would be wise to consider an 80/20 rule for secondary sourcing in order to ensure that major disruptions do not fatally cripple important delivery and replenishment activities; and that as per-barrel oil prices rise to exceed $100/barrel or more, companies will need to re-consider the use of extended supply chains and the resulting transportation costs.
