$100,000 received by Idaho Drug Coalitions

Sept. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation had its quarterly board meeting and during that meeting there was an amount of $100,000 was allocated to the Blaine county Drug Coalition.

According to recent reports there is an extremely high drug and alcohol abuse among Blaine county youth.  Data that was collected shows that drug and alcohol usage are very high among the youth of the valley.  Many of these statistics show that drug usage is nearly double.  The board granted the Drug Coalition $100,000 to address the growing public health concern and begin to deal with these situations.

The director of the Drug Coalition stated, “The funds are crucial and will be critical to the coalition’s multi-faceted strategy to reduce youth substance abuse.”  Blaine County has a plan to reduce youth substance abuse.  It is appropriate to its local community and it has specific programs that are based on evidences of its needs.  It also addresses the environmental part of drug abuse.  The coalition has locally chosen solutions to move the needle on this problem of substance abuse in the youth of the county.  One of the greatest barriers is having enough funding to put these programs to work.  Blaine County Drug Coalition does have the funding now from the St. Luke’s river Wood Foundation and they will put it to use immediately.

Drug rehabilitation and education programs in Idaho are often underfunded, so this news came as a breath of fresh air to those trying to address this growing health concern in the state.
